Tim's Magazine Draft

For the first draft hand in I intended to create a very basic magazine advert to best suit our target market but in the end i threw together so much the draft broke all the conventions especially the all important rule of 3.

This is the very first culmination of my ideas and was quickly stopped because although the progression of the background picture worked, it was still quite boring. However i had established the layout of the advert and had developed the idea of how it was going to come together by concentrating on magazine conventions. I then turned to an entirely different picture but kept the same fonts i had been searching for (these will be blogged about later) as i had a good feel for how they worked with our autumn theme.

I then brought together the basic layout of the fonts with a drawn graphic of a standard leaf, this was a perfect to keep the theme running and add a little splash of different colour, it also completed the rule of 3 which is a standard convention to avoid the magazine advert looking too loud and taking it away from its purpose. But to my eye the magazine still looked too boring so i made a mistake and decided for another element to spice things up, in actual fact i just wasn't using what i had already included to its best potential. I then added a picture of the classic poloroid shape and inserted the wonderful drawings that Hannah completed of each band member. My intentions were to give the audience an idea of who the band is and carry on with a slightly childish feel we had going. Ultimately this took away from the design and left it looking more like a piece of photography.

Of course the down side of the draft was not giving any information on what it actually is, the only way the audience could understand what the magazine article is actually trying to sell would be a large 'out now' bit of text and a record label at the bottom. So i did exactly that just before handing in the first draft.
