Key Generic Conventions
Little Man Tate's video for their single Sexy In Latin, automatically from the start gives us an example of synchronised editing, where the images, which include various sentences being written on different surfaces, change on the beat of the drum. The action in the video is fast paced keeping in time with the beat of the song, which is emphasised with the use of different camera angles, including close ups, pan shots and long shots. Another key convention hat is used, is the use of the lyrics being presented through visuals, for example; "Well our mum's got talking in the village store"...these lyrics are represented when the two woman are speaking to each other before the camera tracks down to the two children standing beside them both.
The typical Indie genre is reflected in the use of a narrative within the music video as well as a performance from the band. The narrative is main clear to the audience from the beginning, reflecting the lyrics and is another conventional storyline of the love between two characters. The narrative is also made more clear by the use of various effects which make the narrative between the two characters even clearer, as well as providing them with illusion that they are involved or to at least emphasise with the characters, with the use of spilt screens.
The music video is fairly straight forward, in terms of using a basic storyline and a performance. The video could easily be re-created, unlike a mainstream Pop video that would be hard to re-create considering the vast use of special effects and the use of advanced software and the option of green screens.
The video has a strong and coherent relationship between the narrative and the performance, with the lead singer of the band playing the role of the little boy who we become familiar with from the beginning, playing the role of the boy with the crush on the girl.
